The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty kicked off the Dove® Reality Diaries: an online series that shows girls' real beauty & boosts body image with the Queen of Self-Esteem.
The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty is a new online series that will challenge – and change – the stereotypical views of beauty in North American culture. Four real girls share their struggles with self-esteem, body image, boys and relationships in the Dove Reality Diaries. Their struggles are real; the girls honestly reveal how they feel about themselves at school, home, and with friends.
The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty will help other girls with their own self-perception and body image struggles. “We created the Dove Self-Esteem Fund as a way to educate young girls about self-esteem issues, and as a source of inspiration,” say the organizers of The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty.
Not only are there body image quizzes and self-esteem tests, there are also quizzes that determine how girls impact others’ self-esteem. “Are you helping or hindering the self-esteem of others? Take the quiz and see.” There are self-esteem activities to help girls boost body image and feel better about their bodies, such as “Create a Self-Esteem Bubble.”
Workshop videos, “Queen of Self-Esteem” Jessica Weiner’s media appearances, and a tool to ask a beauty expert questions are all part of the Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty. Girls aren’t just sitting and staring at a screen; they’re involved in boosting body image and increasing self-esteem.
The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty Is Educational
The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty teaches girls how to look at fashion models, pop culture, and the media objectively. It teaches girls not to fall into the beauty myth trap, thus destroying their body image and self-esteem.
For instance, the Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty shows girls how to be media smart. The site has a quiz that shows how to distinguish between a “real” photo and one that’s been manipulated. The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty offers a fact-versus-fiction quiz that reveals the facts about our bodies (as opposed to the fictions, such as “you have to work out every day to be fit.”).
The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty Is Encouraging
“Body size depends on muscle, bone and height as well as body fat. Genetics help you determine the size and shape of your body as well. Staying active to be healthy is important at every size.” The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty encourages girls to be themselves – and love and accept themselves – no matter what color, size, shape, or height they are.
The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty Expert Jessica Weiner
“Queen of Self-Esteem” Jessica Weiner is a best-selling author, advice columnist and on-air personality – and an expert in women’s issues. She’s the Global Ambassador for the Dove Self-Esteem Fund. Jessica Weiner is also the resident expert for the The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty campaign; she answers girls’ questions about self-esteem and gives advice about everything from boy problems to talking to the parents.
